Portuguese authorities confirmed on Tuesday that the raided UEFA Women’s Champions League trophy, stolen from Lisbon’s Estádio José Alvalade, has been recovered safely. The heist was done in the course of a Sporting Lisbon vs. Vitória Guimarães match on Saturday, although police were not notified until the following day.
Reporters quoted investigators as saying that masked burglars forced their way into the garage of the stadium, where the trophy and other UEFA property were kept. The stadium is hosting the Women’s Champions League final on May 24 between defending title holders Barcelona and Arsenal.
