The Pakistani government is set to introduce new tax measures in the 2025-26 budget, targeting freelancers, vloggers, and YouTubers as part of efforts to boost revenue. Officials aim to generate an additional Rs. 500–600 billion through these levies.

A recent Topline Research report indicates that the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) may be assigned a tax collection target between Rs. 14.1 trillion and Rs. 14.3 trillion—a 16–18% increase from the previous year. Around 12% of this growth is expected to come from natural economic factors, including projected GDP growth of 3.6% and an estimated inflation rate of 7.7%.

To meet the remaining target, the government is likely to introduce new tax policies, with a focus on expanding the tax base and enhancing collection efficiency. Bringing digital earners—such as freelancers and content creators—into the tax net is part of a broader strategy to formalize more sectors of the economy.

The budget announcement is expected soon, with further details on the proposed tax changes to be revealed at that time. Stay tuned for updates on how these measures could impact digital professionals in Pakistan.
